Sanspareil Rock Garden

Last weekend we took a little road trip to the town of Wonsees, a town outside Bayreuth. Wonsees is the home of Burg Zwernitz but also the home of the famous rock gardens which was designed by Margravine Wilhelmine von Bayreuth in 1744.

Burg Zwernitz's earliest documentation dates back to 1156.

We were able to go up to the top of the watch tower and look out at the amazing view below..

Our favorite part of the day was the Rock Gardens. There are lots of paths to walk and tons of places to picnic. All along the way you can see the amazing rock garden formations...

Oriental Building built in 1744...

This was our favorite rock formation, the rock theater.

Vulkansgrotte....

My favorite picture of the day. The kids taking in the beauty of the rock gardens...
